We will be holding a WALK and LEARN special event on October 28th – a tour of the second-hand bookshops in Jimbocho, Tokyo.

What:

The session will take place at the 62nd Tokyo Kanda Used Book Festival.

You will learn skills like

-Asking the shopkeeper for what you’re looking for, like “Japanese history books from the Showa era”, or “Simple manga stories”.
-Chatting to the shopkeeper about his store and making small talk.
 -Describing various types of literature.

Where:

Jimbocho is home to some of the largest secondhand bookshops in the world, and is Tokyo’s go to spot for finding used books and other treasures like old maps, stamps, ukiyo-e and papers.

Also, the Kanda/Jimbocho area is home to nearly 400 curry shops as well as classical coffee shops which hark back to a simple time when people would settle in with a good book and a coffee with no electronic distractions.

After shopping, we will stop in one of the curry shops for lunch (the curry is not included in the tour price). Vegetarian options are available.
