Our <em>Walk &amp; Learn<\/em> events are designed to help students experience Japanese language and culture firsthand, putting what they\u2019ve learned into practice in real-world situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year, our students had the exciting opportunity to attend one of Japan\u2019s most iconic cultural events: a professional Sumo tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Day of Tradition, Excitement, and Language in Action<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>From the moment we arrived at the arena, the energy was unforgettable. The smell of yakitori filled the air, the crowd buzzed with excitement, and the rhythmic sounds of taiko drums signaled the start of the matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we watched the wrestlers (\u529b\u58eb \/ rikishi) prepare and step into the ring, our students learned not just vocabulary, but the <em>meaning<\/em> behind the rituals \u2014 from the symbolic salt throwing to the deep bows exchanged before each match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the event, our instructors guided students through phrases and expressions they could use in the moment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u300c\u3059\u3054\u3044\uff01(Sugoi!)\u300d \u2013 Amazing!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u300c\u304c\u3093\u3070\u308c\uff01(Ganbare!)\u300d \u2013 Go for it!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u300c\u52dd\u3063\u305f\uff01(Katta!)\u300d \u2013 He won!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a fun, natural way to connect language and culture \u2014 surrounded by passionate fans and centuries-old tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why Cultural Learning Matters<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Immersive experiences like these help students see how language connects to Japan\u2019s customs, emotions, and social interactions.
